50 View Mile Marker!!!!!

Hey you guys! So, this is an update on what I have been doing since my last post. Right now, I am watching Seinfeld. This post probably would've come later if I hadn't realized I didn't have a lot of homework. Hey, you know what I just realized? I'm eating some nasty freakin' Stauffer's lasagna again tonight. So I guess that it is destined for me to eat some crappy frozen dinner lasagna every time I do a blogpost. Hurray.

So, I have been checking up on the blog and when I noticed that I hit the 50 mark, I decided I REALLY needed to do a post. Okay, so soon after I did my last post, maybe a couple weeks, I went to the beach and wasn't able to care for my sweet baby cabbage while I was gone. Miraculously, BOTH my cabbage plants had sprouted by the time I got back! I was so proud of my little babies. I noticed one looked a little weaker than the other. It eventually died. RIP cabbage baby. So, anyways, I found out why they hadn't sprouted before. Turns out that cabbage seeds have to be germinated before they sprout, which, in turn, means that you are technically supposed to soak the seed in water for like a day or two before you plant in. While I was gone, it rained a lot, so it got soaked for a day or two and sprouted like it was supposed to. Right now it is the size of a little 3 leaved clover without one of the leaves. I have been keeping a close eye on it. After it finished raining today, I continued my little classic music experiment and played it about an hour of Mozart symphonies while doing my science vocab. I really hope it gets bigger cause everybody else's cabbage is a lot bigger than mine.

I also have been doing a little brain training to see if it helps me bring up my grades. It did! In math class we were learning about fractional exponents, work problems, and rationalizing exponents. I practically taught the lessons myself! Took the test today and I am pretty sure I made a 100. In science, we had a substitute teacher for about 4 days because my actual science teacher went on senior trip to New York. The sub used to be our school's science teacher, so she knew what she was doing. I took the test Friday and PASSED with a 97!!!!! Hallelujah! I don't know if this has anything to actually do with the brain training, but I am absolutely not gonna take my chances.

I went to the mountains this weekend, and it wasn't a long weekend, so it was the shortest amount of time I have ever spent in the mountains. We stayed at a family friend's place with my grandparents and a couple of their friends. It was.... interesting. Honestly, the only thing I was interested in doing was eating at Bandanna's and the Dan'l Boone Inn. We did. I didn't really want to do anything after that. So I read. A lot. While I was squished in between my grandma and her friend in the very back seat of my grandpa's stinking car. (It was real, it was fun, but it wasn't real fun.)

So over the past few weeks, I have knocked a couple books out of the "Need to Read" pile. The first one was "Walking Disaster" by Jamie McGuire. It was pretty good, but lacked a little in the details department. I wouldn't read it without it's companion book, "Beautiful Disaster." *Link to buy in titles*
Next, I read a book called "Stung" written by Bethany Wiggins. It was awesome!!!! It starts off with a girl waking up in house that she knows she used to live in, but it is trashed. Without any memories, she doesn't know where to go. Turns out that she is actually in a post-bee-apocalyptic America. Without bees, the govt. released a genetically altered form of the bug to try to pollinate plants. When stung by these bees, people got very sick with flu-like symptoms and died. People were given vaccinations to help against these illnesses and the vaccines went south. Eventually the vaccinated people turned into monsters and tried to kill everyone around them. Turns out, the main character and her twin brother were given the most lethal doses of the vaccines, but the girl did not turn into a monster. This mystifies everyone around her, and eventually she is captured by a group of guards around the walled city provided with food and free from beasts. The man in charge of watching her, she soon realizes, is the little boy from her childhood who lived across the street. He recognizes her, and eventually comes to her aide when the Governor of the city wants the girl to be assassinated. Together, they fight against the system and find a cure for the beasts and those who have not yet Turned. Oh, here's the link for Stung.
After that, I read a book that popped up in my Kindle carousel because I had pre-ordered it from one of my favorite authors, Julie Kagawa. It is the second in a series about vampires called "The Immortal Rules." Since this is one of my favorite authors and I have already read the previous book, I am not going to tell you about the sister book and, instead, am going to start where the book starts. If you want to know the whole story, please please please go buy the books from these links on Amazon: Book 1 and Book 2. So, the story starts with Allison Sekemoto looking for her vampire sire, Kanin, and running into her blood brother under him, Jackal. Together they search for Kanin through a maze of vampire cities and, on the way, run into a new strain of the Red Lung Virus released into the outskirts of her hometown, a vampire city ruled by the vampire prince Salazar. The virus was released by Sarren, an insane vampire that has released the virus to kill every human and vampire to "cleanse" the world. Together, the band of vampires along with Allison's boyfriend from the previous book, Zeke, search for a cure and seek to get revenge on the dangerously insane and creatively combative Sarren.
The next book was Wide Awake by Shelly Crane. Amazing! I am adding this special lady to my list of favorite authors (I'm going to put up this list instead of one of the others.) A girl wakes up frhom a coma to find that she has been out for 6 months and it is her senior year. She doesn't know who she is, but her old boyfriend seeks to change that. She was once the "It" girl of her high school, so skinny and popular that she actually gained weight while she was in the coma and none of her "friends" visited her because they didn't think she would want them to see her in her "condition." She hates who she used to be and fights to become strong enough to change not only the school's opinion of her, but also what her family wants her to be. Along the way, she falls for her physical therapist, Mason, and seeks to have a relationship with him, only to find out that Mason is keeping away from her because of a secret from her untimely past. Eventually there is a sort of happy ending, but if you want to know the whole story, please buy the book from Amazon by clicking on this link.
Finally, I knocked this book out yesterday. It has the makings of a great series, and I hope to see more from this author soon.  This book is "Lark" by Erica Cope. It is definitely not to be overlooked. Fantasy and fairy tale with a hint of romance, this book hits every paranormal reader's spot. Unbeknownst to Mia, she is the daughter of an Elven king. Turns out her best friend, Greyson St. Clair, is the king's best friends and has been watching over her her whole life. Brought about by a freak accident, Mia is transported to the Elven realm by Grey, who eventually determines that she is the one to fulfill an ancient prophecy. She is kidnapped by her evil uncle, king of the dark elves, whereas her father is king of the light elves. Mia is blessed with the gift of healing, and during her time in the dark realm, Mia meets a friend like her who helps her tap into her other abilities between mental torture sessions by the dark king himself. Eventually, her friend Jacoby, the one like her, half human and half elf, helps her escape. Together they work on training Mia with Grey as well as planning an attack on the dark elves to keep the prophecy from being fulfilled, but fulfilling even more of it instead. As it turns out, Jacoby is also part of the prophecy. When things go awry and plans fall apart, Mia is forced to make a desperate attempt to save the one she loves, but will it only hurt more of her own instead? Find out by reading the book that you can buy at this link.

Also, I took a trip to Wilmington recently and went to Wrightsville Beach. 14 of us were cramped in the tiny van the whole way there and the whole way back. It was a nightmare, especially with this boy on the van who is a pain in my..... side. We ate at Mellow Mushroom where I was shot with spitballs and forced to eat some really gross pizza and then we stopped by a frozen yogurt place where my phone was hidden in a napkin box. Fun, fun. Needless to say, I'm pretty sure I won't be riding to anywhere in the van anymore, and I don't care whether I have to charter a boat, a plane, a taxi, or whatever, but I will not be put through that torture again.

So, that was pretty much my month. Oh, and we are watching the movie Ben-Hur AGAIN in Bible class. We have been watching two days and still haven't even made it to the middle. Also, there is a blood drive coming up soon. Being too young to give, I kind of hate it. I want to give blood so bad because I have O- blood and I can give blood to anybody but can only accept my own blood type, so it kinda sucks. I really want to give but can't, so I guess I will get my mom to give for me for extra credit. Oh well, there's always next year. My math teacher has given 87 times! That's a lot of blood!

Okay, well, I'm all done so I'm gonna eat cause my head is killing me and I ate some crappy candy I am allergic to in Spanish today. Read you next time!!!!!
